Ronghua

Ronghua is a traditional Chinese handicraft that originated in the Tang Dynasty. Made from natural silk and copper wire, Ronghua is mostly used for folklore festivals and ceremonial decorations in olden times. Most of the symbolic shapes are taken from the symbols of folk life and are used to express good fortune and good intentions. With the development of technology, more and more traditional handicrafts are disappearing. In the process of learning to make Ronghua, I had the idea of incorporating these skills into making Ronghua in a modern fashion. Through this project, I hope to draw more and more people's attention and importance to traditional handicrafts.

After completing the first five sets of Look, I realized that the first five sets were more conceptual designs. Then I wanted to use the sixth set to make a more practical, wearable outfit. I wanted to develop it into a more commercial possibility.

The biggest difficulty in developing this project was how to implement my idea of how to keep the silk thread fixed on the body and how to make it more home rich. So I came up with the idea of using beads to string in it, which could make it richer. This project was the first time I tried to make it in a non-traditional way, and this project somehow broke my preconceived notion of garment making. It gave me a new idea and direction for my future design direction.
